Utah and its capitol city have gone through dramatic changes over the past decade. Our state was an island unto itself for so many years. Initially boosted by the spotlight of the 2020 Winter Olympics and an aggressive Economic Development plan, Salt Lake City finally made it on the map as a sought-after place to work and live. In the early 2000’s, the LDS Church implemented a major downtown redevelopment plan in an effort to upgrade its real estate holdings around the Church’s Temple Square campus. What evolved is the crown jewel of mixed-use retail, office and residential communities in the intermountain west. The Church’s improvement of its downtown real estate spurred additional growth as local and out of state developers fell all over themselves to get in on the action. New office buildings, retail establishments and plenty of apartment buildings have sprouted up all over town. This unprecedented growth has attracted, and now caters to a growing population base. Whether it’s younger folks looking for a new begging, or new business owners and retirees looking to escape the coasts, our downtown population has blossomed.

While we were all off the races at the end of 2019, 2020 hit. Our team at Axis has worked through a bizarre spring, summer and fall in selling real estate downtown. It all started with the shake rattle and roll from the March 13^th earthquake and proceeding aftershocks. Then COVID-19 happened and we fell into a dismal spiral.

2020 is behind us and the City and its citizens are buoyed by the confidence of a Covid-19 vaccine and better times ahead of us. At Axis Realty Group, we have doubled down on our belief that cities will always be the most prized and sought-after place to live, work and play. We are committed to our downtown real estate clients and are anxious to continue supporting local eating, entertainment and cultural establishments more than ever. We believe the concept of living and working out of a home in the burbs works for some, but not all. The “creative combustion” of the co-working/office environment, high-rise living and eating out will thrive more than ever in downtown SLC.
